The Garden 03:56
Crash right through your stained glass mirror eyes into... the cathedral of your soul Some half crazed kama-karmic stuntman all I can do is hit the ground and roll There was a moment back there I was hurtling through the air and I swear that we both knew you would never belong to me, no no I would never belong to you but if you want to loan me for a while turns out my rates are pretty cheap you don't even have to speak you could enslave me for a week with one casually thrown away smile... Torn out of the garden and thrown onto the road where every gift I have been given fills my suitcase like a stone well I'm standing at your doorway in a borrowed set of clothes and if there's one thing that I've learned every time I have been burned it's that you've gotta be reborn on the sharpness of the thorn if you wanna know the essence of a rose A hommage to thee gentle creature from this barnacle and jewel encrusted rock I've crawled across a valley just to meet you and I'm still not sure it's right for me to knock so help me... Wrenched off the highway and tossed into the sky ain't ever gonna know how, or why or what is right but I'm dreaming through the day and wandering through the night and if there's one thing that I've learned every time I have been burned it's that you've gotta be reborn on the sharpness of the thorn if you wanna know the sweetness... of a rose Now I'm torn out of the garden and thrown onto the road and I'm standing at your doorway in a borrowed set of clothes my suitcase is filled with stones and I've come here because I wanna know...

Naked Ape 04:00
Here I am sitting at the top of a tree thinking about my ancestry; a monkey gets the urge to jump to the ground stand on two legs and walk around it's only a geological eye-blink later there are tree's in the monkey's lap in the shape of newspapers informing them that they have fenced themselves in a chaotic cage that is violent and grim They stare into the future and think about survival Is this a point of departure, or a moment of arrival? Oh naked ape what is gonna be your escape? mmm-how-how from this zoo that you have built yourself? Now that you've laid these bars all around let's hope you can look after yourself you're the only zoo keeper to be found Baboons babbling at a billion miles an hour quarrelling with the spider monkey, scrambling for power The chimpanzee's gain is the orangutang's loss and the naked ape is sure that it is the boss You great ape, you'd better stop and do some thinking you're standing on a raft and it's rapidly sinking Oh naked ape what is gonna be your escape? mmm-how-how from this ship of foolishness? Your grip apon the cages bars shaking will not set you free until you reconcile your present with your primitive ancestry. Oh naked ape what is gonna be your escape? mmm-how-how from this zoo that you have built yourself? Now that you've laid these bars all around let's hope you can look after yourself you're the only zoo keeper to be found let's hope you can look after yourself you're the only zoo keeper to be found let's hope you can look after yourself (oh, naked ape)

Seascape 05:53
I went to the sea on a crisp winters day with my lady, souls as one as we went on our way We exchanged vows of love as we walked to the beach How strong were their bonds, how far was their reach We found a place to lie , I lay for hours with my head in her lap softly talked in the way that I guess all lover's must chat - not disturbing the moment and left it at that Then she said, with her eyes turned down and her smile falling flat "I must leave you now, my love. Got to go, sad to say" and she gave me one last kiss turned and went on her way So alone I walked across the tear wet, white sand In solitude for hours till I stumbled across an old man Shaping in the sand, the saddest picture I ever had seen His weary old hand carving a crazy old dream. The light it was fading pink clouds marked the end of the day. The old man hadn't seen me, so went on my way Old man, by the sea shaping crazy dreams in the sand When he knows that the tide will steal this child from his hand Old man, you're not the only one that I do not... undrerstand

Weave 03:18
What can y’ see, what can y’ see? What can y’ see, what can y’ see? People have gathered from all over town To show their concern about what’s going down As they’re laughing and moving And dancing and grooving For themselves In this world My thoughts turn to things that are small To parts that are greater than simply some of the whole What can you see? What can you see? In a strange congregation in a music filled hall Are a woman, a man and they’re young boy child In this broken earth is they’re world complete? The woman sits With the child by her side The man is standing At her feet And she weaves (what can y’ see, what can y’ see?) (what can y’ see, what can y’ see?) The man is worried - his thoughts are hurried He never has the time to change his mind So he never has the mind to change Never makes the change his family needs He takes it for granted They will always be waiting While he bleeds And she weaves She weaves She we-ea-ves The child is charmed by the reggae band By the reams of rhythm and the rooms of people Held in a trance by the music they dance As if they’re running in slow motion Going no-where With smiles on their faces And she weaves She weaves She… What can y’ see, what can y’ see What can y’ see, what can y’ see What can y’ see, what can y’ see What can you see? What can you see? What can you see? What can y’ see, what can y’ see, what can y’ see?

Rise Up 06:13
Come ye slumbering angels rise up and lift your shining faces unto the world cast off these calloused cloaks and let your golden wings unfold Open wide your heart’s eyes and feel what is revealed shine a light on all you meet to illuminate their dignity and worth till the sweet milk of compassion is raining down on earth Heal the hurt of the wounded shoulder the grief of all who mourn comfort the dying ease the way for that which is being born love boldly with the saints, sing brightly with the messengers of dawn Laugh with the children Till the darkest sky is brightened by their mirth and the sweet milk of compassion is raining down on earth Hi-yee, hi-yee, hi yee, hi-yee-ee Needlessly you have roamed Only to learn What you always have known Come ye slumbering angels Rise up and take your places in a fearless sky Gaze upon this ocean of sorrow With clear and loving eyes Dive deep into it’s waters to once again with it’s clouds arise and shower blessings on each and every path till the sweet milk of compassion is raining down on earth till the sweet milk of compassion is raining here on earth

about

This debut song-writing EP has been a long time coming - but well worth the wait! With an extensive back catalogue of as yet unrecorded, highly diverse and original material to choose from, where to begin?

“Quarrelling With the Spider Monkey” finds a suitably varied collection of Jamie David’s poetic song-stories in a lush acoustic setting of cello, viola, violin, guitar and vocal harmonies. For a five track EP, it has a surprisingly epic and complete feel.

Response so far has been overwhelmingly positive! Here some examples taken from what people have written in emails and other messages -

“Listening to your album in my car and really loving it. So fresh n crisp n lush n quirky:”

“It is a unique masterpiece...of which we especially love track five.”

“I've been enjoying listening to your CD.  It is pretty bloody fantastic, congrats to you and the band on the great songs, musicianship, lyrics and recording.”

"Love your story telling, interesting rhythms, lyrics and beautiful string arrangements esp on seascape interlude. Your voice is resonanant and character-full. Like the change to harmonic singing in Weave. Favourite track - Rise Up, got me singing counter melodies. Congratulations on a successful and enjoyable album."

“…finally got to listen to the album yesterday and it's really beautiful! Congrats Jamie you are an old world troubadour in a mysterious modern way “

about

Jamie David/Miracle Band X Fremantle, Australia

Jamie David is a uniquely idiosyncratic story-telling songwriter. His interests in a broad range of music and musical ideas - inside and outside of popular culture - have led to a one of a kind genre-defying, meta-eclectic style. Wanting to add colour and texture to the story-telling, he has long engaged a fabulous floating line up of exceptional musicians in his collective "Miracle Band X" ... more
